"Diana, just a quick heads up to let you know we are still using your cookbook and the guys will often be heard saying what would Diana say about this or that....really good feed back... I made your potato salad and the oriental coleslaw on Sat. for a family luncheon and had rave reviews so thanks again."

Movie Night Munchies

November 30th, 2017

Planning a girl’s night in, game night with the boys or movie night with the family?  Here are some delicious and nutritious finger food and snack ideas to make eating in front of the TV a breeze.  Now I don’t often encourage eating in front of the TV as it can lead to “mindless” overeating.  However, with these fun ideas that are all pre-portioned you are sure to keep a handle on how much you eat.  I’ve included several different ways to do microwave popcorn because what’s a movie without popcorn?  Popcorn done right is high in fibre, low in calories and tastes great.  Now, with the new and improved ingredient list free of artificial flavours, colours and preservatives, Orville Redenbacher’s microwave popcorn is guilt free too.

Chili Popcorn in small popcorn boxes: (display)

Pop your choice of the new and improved Orville Redenbacher Microwave Popcorn (I recommend the Smart Pop for this one) and toss it with chili powder and cumin to taste.  Spritz it with lime juice just before serving in individual servings.

Parmesan herb Popcorn: (demo)

Pop the Extra Buttery popcorn and right away when it comes out of the microwave toss it with a mixture of: 1/2c grated parmesan, 1 tsp garlic powder, 1 tsp salt, 2 tsp Italian seasoning

Other great flavours are truffle salt and truffle olive oil or flaxseed oil, Crazy Jane’s seasoning salt and pepper

Popcorn trail mix in a mini mason jar: (demo)

Serving trail mix in a mason jar ensures you only eat a set amount.  Mindless eating of nuts and seeds can really increase caloric consumption.  Try a combination of Smart Pop popcorn, pumpkin seeds, dried cranberries, dried blueberries and pecans.

Dried Apple Cinnamon Popcorn Party Mix: (display)

Toss freshly popped popcorn with 2 Tbsp sugar and 1 1/2tsp cinnamon.  Add in dried apple pieces and enjoy!

Vegetable sticks in hummus served in a shot glass: (display)

I think it’s a must to serve vegetables and to make it easy so people don’t have to get up to dip, consider serving it in a shot glass.  Spoon hummus into the bottom of the glass and then stick vegetable sticks into the hummus.

Layered salad in a jar: (display)

Layer cut vegetables and protein to make a tasty single serve salad for guests.  Delicious combinations include Tex Mex with tomato, black beans, corn, bell pepper, grated cheddar and salsa or Greek: chickpeas, tomato, cucumber, red pepper, purple onion, olives and feta.
