"Diana, just a quick heads up to let you know we are still using your cookbook and the guys will often be heard saying what would Diana say about this or that....really good feed back... I made your potato salad and the oriental coleslaw on Sat. for a family luncheon and had rave reviews so thanks again."

Nutrition Month 2012 week 2

Myth: Sea Salt is natural so it’s better for you than table salt.

The Truth is, salt is salt and nutritionally whether sea salt, kosher salt or table salt, they all have about the same amount of sodium.  Too much sodium can be harmful to your health.

Table salt is mined from dried up ancient salt lakes

Table salt has been iodized to prevent thyroid disease

Sea Salt is from evaporated sea water

It can have different crystal size, flavours and colours depending on where it is from and how it is made

Myth: Only people with high blood pressure need to limit how much sodium they eat.

The truth is that eating too much sodium can not only cause high blood pressure but also cause stroke, heart disease and kidney disease.

Most Canadians consume 3400mg, double what we need for good health

Tips to Lower Sodium:

Taking away the salt shaker is only part of it

Limit processed foods, restaurant meals, high sodium sauces like soy sauce and teriyaki, canned soups, salted snacks and crackers.
